As Stockton Springs residents, Bill Carpenter and Donna Gold have walked, biked, skied, run, and birded Sears Island. We’ve picked raspberries and picked trash. We’ve brought family and friends to climb downed trees, clamber over rocks, explore old foundations, look for birds, and simply walk. We love Sears Island.
Poet and novelist Bill Carpenter is emeritus literature & creative writing faculty member at College of the Atlantic. His recent novel Silence is about the destruction of an island in Penobscot Bay.
Donna Gold is an oral historian and retired journalist. Stockton Springs folks might know her from We Never Knew Any Different, the oral history volume she created for the Stockton Springs Historical Society.
